Blake Whisenant, designer of the Earth Box

The patented EarthBox was developed by Blake Whisenant, a commercial farmer whose research center is a short drive from my home. Through years of experimentation and dealing with the everyday problems of a commercial farm, Blake came up with an amazing growing system. It’s easy at first glance to think it’s just another plant box.

I had the opportunity to speak about the EB design with Blake and some of the staff at the “EarthBox Research Center” in Ellenton, FL. They explained that one of the secrets of the Earth Box is that it allows plants to take as much water and fertilizer as they need, with no guess work on the gardeners part. No over watering or burning the plants with excess fertilizer, and as long as there is water in the reservoir the plant will take what it needs, 24/7.

This maintenance-free, award-winning, high-tech growing system controls soil conditions, eliminates guesswork and more than doubles the yield of a conventional garden with less fertilizer, less water and virtually no effort! No digging, no weeding, no guesswork. Vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers grow bigger, tastier and faster in the EarthBox! The EarthBox Garden Kit measures 30″ L x 13.5″ W x 12″ H and includes fertilizer, dolomite, two germination covers and caster wheels for easy movement. Almost any brand of potting mix for containers or hanging plants will work with EarthBox (not included), which has a large capacity
of 2.5 cubic feet.

About a month or two after we got our first EB (EarthBox) I knew this was not my grandma’s planter box. I had a zucchini that was the largest I had ever seen. By comparison, nearby plants from the same seeds were growing in the ground. The plants in the ground got the same care, but couldn’t compare with the EarthBox plants.
